announcing Buzz Buddy Program – please reply by Oct 20

We are reaching out to promote the Buzz Buddy program, an EDI initiative for connecting international and U.S. students in the UDP department. It is designed to help participants share experiences and build community through conversations centered on cultural questions and more. Sharing our personal histories, perspectives, and worldview is one of the most powerful ways to forge relationships with one another, and we can all benefit by recognizing and appreciating the diversity within the department (and beyond!). Plus, it could just be a fun time talking to your peers outside school work!

This year, like last term, the Buzz Buddy program will be held via Zoom. These circumstances can be isolating, and we hope opportunities like this can help students curb loneliness and feel a little closer to each other.

Interested students will be assigned to groups of 2 or 3 and will meet through Zoom several times each term for the academic year. To begin, we will provide you with conversation starters, and you can shape the interactions as you wish as you go along.

If this sounds interesting to you, please fill out this Google Form by Tuesday, Oct. 20. The EDI Committee will reach out shortly to announce the groups, which may include students from your own program or other programs in the department.

All CEP, MUP, MIPM and PhD students are encouraged to participate – regardless of entry year. Students who have been Buzz Buddies in the past are welcome to join again.

If you have any questions or ideas for conversation topics, please let us know! You can contact the Buzz Buddies point person for this year, Adela Mu (adelamu@uw.edu). We hope you will join us!
