Arch 529 -Advanced Digital Projects

The most performative architecture is that which is able to adapt responsively over time, and in the moment, creating engaging interactions  Many aspects of the built environment are manually adaptable, but with the addition of sensors, motors, actuators and computer controls, architectural systems and entire built environments can start to engage autonomous operation and adaptive responsiveness. What are the possibilities for digitally responsive architecture? How are such systems designed? programmed? prototyped?  This course is an exploration of the questions, current practices and future possibilities for digitally responsive architectural systems.  Students will learn skills -or expand existing skills with the Arduino micro-controller family, and then design, prototype and test a responsive system of their own invention.  Prior digital fabrication coursework is recommended but not absolutely required.  Space is limited and enrollment is by Add Code permission.  For more information please contact Rob Corser:   corser@uw.edu
