Hot Topics: Professionalism, Tuesday, November 17, 5pm

CBE Faculty, Staff and Students,

The next Hot Topic conversation on Professionalism will take place next Tuesday, November 17. The Zoom link and Calendar details are below.

Here are a few questions to think about:

  • What are some professionalism “record scratch” moments you’ve experienced in Zoom? Are there new norms of professionalism in a Zoom environment?
  • Here’s a news story from 2020 about a law passed in Washington regarding professional appearance. How are notions of “professionalism” used in ways detrimental to women and POC?
  • What does it mean to be “professional” and what is the university’s role in providing this as a formal part of a student’s education?

The Hot Topics conversations are an opportunity to discuss some of the language and ideas central to our college work and the forthcoming strategic plan. These conversations are open to all faculty, staff and students in the College and will be facilitated by members of our own community.
Best,
