CBE Computing is looking to hire new student employees for work at the Digital Commons Help Desk!

Nature of Organization

The digital commons  computer lab provides the CBE community with technology and computing resources, such as Windows and Mac OS workstations with a variety of design applications, scanners, printers, and multiple plotters.  We are also a group dedicated to supporting our community with design expertise, software experience, friendship, and a calm, reassuring presence during stressful times.  CBE is a college made up of many majors, backgrounds, and identities, and we encourage all interested persons to apply.

Position Description

Working in the digital commons provides our student employees some fantastic opportunities in a number of different areas.  They are trained to provide the initial troubleshooting for technology assistance requests that come up in person and via email, to sell plots and 3D prints as well as perform maintenance on the plotter, as well as installing hardware and software for the CBE community.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Digital commons student workers are responsible for the following items

  1. Provide in-person support that includes, but is not limited to,
    1. Answer technical questions and provide basic application support
    2. Sell plots & 3D prints
    3. Receive new hardware and software and add to inventory
    4. Hand out and receive loaner equipment
    5. Assist with delivery & installation of new hardware and software
  2. Ensure a clean comfortable working environment 
  3. Update classroom schedules
  4. Provide a calm and reassuring presence during stressful situations

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Able to lift & carry 40 lb paper rolls
  • Organized to be reliable and dependable
  • Possess an inquisitive attitude and a desire to learn new things.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills needed to convey technical troubleshooting steps, workflow suggestions and positive feedback and support in stressful situations
  • Enthusiastic and patient person who can handle a variety of different situations and users.

Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to have:

  • Experience installing and configuring computer hardware and software*
  • Previous wide format printer/plotter experience*
  • Experience working without direct supervision
  • Work study preferred but not required

*training is provided
