Chair’s Panel, May 19: The Climate Crisis and the Future of CBE

Thursday, May 19, 2022, 5 – 6:30 p.m. PDT
ARCH 147

Organized by the Histories, Humanities and Futures Faculty Group at CBE as part of the 2021-22 initiative to host cross-disciplinary conversations on the environmental crisis

The new CBE Strategic Framework identifies “Climate Solutions” as a key pillar of our vision and the focus of the near term efforts of the College. The five Department Chairs have committed to working collaboratively across our disciplines to realize a more just and beautiful world. Given the urgency of the climate crisis, we must take the time to consider: are our actions sufficient, relevant or even appropriate to achieve our stated goals?

After sharing their visions for the future of CBE, the Chairs will be challenged to critically assess how our actions of today (in teaching, research and public engagement) will be evaluated from the context of the near future. Through public discussion and audience engagement we aim to inspire creative thinking and increased understanding of the challenges and opportunities we face.
