The role

During the summer, a primary way we help connect with communities is by staffing information booths at fairs and festivals around the Puget Sound. Talking with community members at these events is a critical way to share information about projects or work happening in the area, build relationships with communities, and to gather people’s feedback. As an Events & Community Engagement Intern, you will spend your time helping plan, set up, and staff events and connect with people across the region on a variety of projects and topics.

In addition to supporting these types of events, you will have opportunities to learn more about community engagement as a practice in the consulting environment, seeing how a wide set of tools and strategies are needed. Skills you will learn and practice over the internship include:

  • Event planning
  • Outreach and public speaking
  • Logistics coordination
  • Material development and writing for diverse audiences
  • Understanding of public decision-making processes
  • Summarizing qualitative feedback
  • Data management and database organization for community engagement
