Facing Homelessness: Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities For The Window Of Kindness!

Are you interested in volunteering ? And would like to get involved in such events? Here is a message from Karina Wallace.

Hello Facing Homelessness Community!

We hope you’re well!

We are very excited to announce that we are starting to re-engage volunteers at our Window Of Kindness starting April 29th! It’s been a long road, and we can’t wait to start making new relationships and rekindle some old ones as well! To existing volunteers – We’ve missed you! To new volunteers – we can’t wait to get to know you!

Schedule: There will be 2 open shifts per day, Tuesday – Thursday 2:45-5:15pm. We hope to re-open on Fridays in early summer.

Returning Volunteers: If you have already completed a shift at the Window of Kindness, you are a returning volunteer. The one change you will notice is that we have extended the shifts by 30 minutes so we have 15 minutes at the beginning for a pre-shift huddle and 15 minutes at the end to close the Window and clean up.

New Volunteers: If you have not had the opportunity to work a shift at the Window of Kindness AND you attended a Facing Homelessness orientation between March 1, 2020 and April 1, 2021 the next step is to email me (karina@facinghomelessness.org) directly so I can help you sign up for your first shift. Since we have been unable to hold group Window of Kindness orientations we will ask you to come in 30 minutes early (2:15) for a one-time, pre-shift orientation. Thereafter your shifts will start at 2:45 and you will be able to sign up on your own through Volunteer Hub.

If you receive this message and you have not attended a Facing Homelessness Orientation, this is the first step to becoming a Window of Kindness volunteer. You can sign up for the orientation through Volunteer Hub, we hold one online through Zoom the first Thursday of every month 6:00-7:00pm.

We have been very fortunate to receive donations from various community members who have held donation drives that have provided much needed clothing for visitors at the Window of Kindness. We have more donations of women’s clothing than we can manage and would like to share the items we have with Elizabeth Gregory home. If you have a vehicle that we can accommodate several bags of clothing and would like to help us we would love to talk with you! Please contact karina@facinghomelessness.org if you are interested!

Please contact me with any questions you may have at karina@facinghomelessness.org.

We very much look forward to connecting with you!
