Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

20 mph speed limits – The city is evaluating the application of 20 mph speed limits on local streets. Currently the city has two 20 mph zones with another forthcoming this spring. You will assist the project manager in learning from existing 20 mph zones and how the city may apply lessons learned to potential wider implementation. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the implementation and evaluation of additional 20 mph zones in Bellevue
  • Leverage GIS data to develop cost estimates for sign-related projects that include a variety of different inputs and scales
  • Support the development of encouragement, education, and outreach efforts to raise awareness around a 20-mph speed limit
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and community sentiment on 20 mph speed limits in Bellevue

 

Safe Routes to School—NTSS responds to address school traffic safety concerns, particularly at the start of the school year. Additionally, we are working to include more proactively school-related projects and efforts into our program. You will assist staff in reaching out to school ahead of the fall quarter, respond to school-related concerns, and support our work to develop a Safe Routes to School Program. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Developing a “Start of School” newsletter to proactively answer common questions and concerns we receive with regards to traffic and the start of school
  • Assist in school-specific outreach events aimed at educating the community around transportation key messages
  • Support staff in analyzing datasets, reviewing best practices, and conducting research to support a Safe Routes to School Program.

 

Neighborhood Traffic Safety Program work—NTSS regularly responds to various transportation-related safety concerns through analysis and reporting to the community. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Update ongoing speed and volume study mapping in city mapping software
  • Assist in conducting field reviews, analyzing traffic data, and drafting Traffic Analysis Reports (TAR)
  • Assist in the issuance of parking permits and facilitating the renewal of Residential Parking Zone (RPZs)

Support the NTSS group on projects and other work items that arise, as needed.
