Reimagining Mobility 2021: Jan. 8

How do we move and explore the world? Join us in conversation with artists, designers, and innovators to imagine new visions of mobility. Throughout 2021, Heather Feldner and Kat Steele from the University of Washington CREATE will host conversations that bridge rehabilitation, engineering, and disability studies. Together, we’ll evaluate our collective assumptions of mobility, celebrate new visions for mobility, and identify opportunities for innovation and inclusion. To join the conversation, sign-up here:

Our first session on January 8, 2020 (11 am PST) will examine What Can a Body Do? with author Sara Hendren. From prosthetics to crosswalks to desire lines, Sara Hendren’s new book provides a foundation for our discussions – examining the rich history, challenges, and opportunities that we can use and learn from to reimagine mobility. Starting Dec 14, we will host a month-long read-along with weekly emails and discussion forum before the live event. Of course, reading the book is not required (but we hope you will – check out the New Yorker Review).

We are looking to create an informal conversation sometime after the Jan. 8 event for CBE faculty, staff, students, and alumni to bring thoughts, questions, and so forth to CREATE and Disability Studies Program faculty. Please email Rachel Berney at if interested.
