Learn about writing op-ed and analysis pieces for general audiences with The Conversation and UW News

The UW News office, together with editors at The Conversation, is hosting a virtual seminar on Wednesday, May 25, 9:30-10:20 a.m., for UW-affiliated faculty, postdocs, graduate students, other researchers and communicators who are interested in learning about op-ed and analysis writing for mainstream audiences.

The seminar will be led by members of the UW News team and an editor at The Conversation — a news analysis website that publishes articles on timely issues written by academics who draw upon their expertise and research. Since the Conversation launched a decade ago, more than 230 UW-affiliated authors have published nearly 375 articles, garnering about 17 million reads. See a full list of UW-authored articles here.

The information you will learn also will be applicable to writing for other news outlets. You will have the opportunity to meet — if you haven’t already — members of the UW News team who are here to help get your work out to the news media and general public through story pitches, news releases, videos and social media, in addition to op-ed and analysis writing assistance.

Interested? Sign up for the May 25 online seminar here.

Additional opportunities: If you have a specific writing idea you would like to work through with an editor from The Conversation, please indicate that on your registration for the seminar and we’ll coordinate those one-on-one and/or small-group sessions.

Email us at uwnews@uw.edu if you have any questions. Thanks, and we look forward to hearing from you.
