Looking for First-Gen Volunteers to help us Celebrate our First-Gen Community
Hello all,
We are looking forward to celebrating our first-generation community here at the University once again by offering a platform for current first-generation students to connect with our first-generation faculty/staff and we need your help! We are currently looking for first-generation faculty and staff at the University to participate as volunteers to host 1:1 chats with our first-generation students. Our primary goal is to connect our students with people who are also first-generation and have found their paths, making campus feel smaller for these students along with allowing them the potential to develop mentorship opportunities with people who have walked in similar shoes to them before.
If you are interested and have time to participate, we would love to create an opportunity for you to meet with a couple first-generation students at the University in November! We plan to offer this event from November 8th-19th. If you also by chance know any first-generation faculty or staff who aren’t on this listserv, we would greatly appreciate it if you could forward this message to them to see if they may be interested as well.
You can read more about our goals and plans for this event in the attachment above. Please sign up here by October 20th if you are interested in volunteering!
If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to me (mvdorn@uw.edu), Joslin Boroughs (joslinb@uw.edu) or Matt Skirven (mskirven@uw.edu). Thank you for your time and support!
Warmly,
Makayla
