Reader Grader positions for ARCH 200 & ARCH 201 / Fall 2022 and Winter 2023

The Department of Architecture seeks four or more graduate students for the position of ‘Reader Grader’ for the introductory course sequence ARCH 200 / 201 Architectural Design and Representation I & II. Both courses are prerequisites for the BA in Architectural Design program, and the Reader Grader will support the instructional faculty in studio sessions that will be conducted twice weekly and in-person during the fall and winter quarters. Refer to the UW Time Schedule for the specific class meeting times; note that none of the sections of this course conflict with graduate program studio hours.

ARCH 200 takes place in autumn quarter and will focus on fundamental design and representation concepts, creative exploration, and essential drawing types and representation strategies for architectural analysis and design. The course will promote flexibility in working across media.

ARCH 201 takes place in the winter quarter and will promote design thinking through a series of design projects and workflows using hand drawing, physical models, and digital media including Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Layout and portfolio design are also part of the ARCH 201 course syllabus.

Reader Grader Responsibilities in ARCH 200 and ARCH 201:

  • assist and support faculty in the studio sections including freehand sketching & digital drawing, desk critiques, demonstrations, and pin-ups.
  • attend the weekly course lecture on Tuesdays, 4:00 – 4:50 pm (ARCH 200 only) and provide support to faculty lecturer.
  • assist with office hours and help sessions outside of studio (1 – 2 hours per week), and grading of student work outside of studio (1 – 3 hours per week)

This position pays $20.00/hour and typically involves 10 – 12 hours per week, and requires a commitment for the full academic quarter. Work-study eligibility is preferred but not required.  Please submit by June 17, 2022 for the greatest level of consideration.

This is a great opportunity to share your skills, interests, and experience with undergraduate students who are preparing to major in architectural design or other related disciplines!
