The Gilman Scholarship is open!


The Gilman Scholarship awards up to $5,000 for undergraduate study abroad. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and be receiving a Pell grant through the Office of Student Financial Aid either at the time they apply or at the they go abroad to be eligible. Programs must START between May 1, 2022 and April 30, 2023. The application deadline is Tuesday, March 1, 2022. If you are studying abroad between March 1, 2022 and April 30, 2023 and receiving a Pell grant you are eligible for up to $5,000 in aid.

Note: The Gilman Scholarship DOES NOT require students study or intern abroad for credit, but students who choose not to enroll for credit will NOT be eligible for financial aid for the UW Study Abroad Scholarship.

The Gilman Scholarship also no longer imposes program length minimums. This means that students participating in faculty-led winter break or spring break programs are now eligible.
Students planning to study or intern abroad in the following academic terms are eligible to apply in the current application cycle:
Summer quarter, Summer A or B 2022
Early fall 2022
Autumn quarter 2022
Autumn semester 2022
Ay 2022-2023
Winter quarter 2023
Spring quarter 2023
Spring semester 2023
Info sessions about the Gilman Scholarship will be offered virtually over Zoom at the following times (registration is required):
Tuesday, February 1, 3:00-4:00pm, PST
Wednesday, February 9, 10:30-11:30am, PST
Tuesday, February 15, 12:30-1:30pm PST
