GRSA SUMMER 2025 JOB OPPORTUNITY: Built environment research with social science methods
The Circular City + Living Systems Lab (CCLS) at the University of Washington, Department of Architecture, has an opening for an hourly graduate student research assistant (GRSA) position in Summer 2025 to work on a team project that investigates the development of the aquaponics industry. The project is funded by the National Science Foundation.
Join our team to help design, evaluate, and optimize aquaponic operations and integrate them into the emerging aquaponics industry and food systems in a local climatic, economic, and cultural context while maximizing the benefits of a circular bio economy for food production.
Job Responsibilities:
- You will be working on projects that use social science methods, such as surveys and interviews.
- Prepare and conduct new surveys and interviews with stakeholders,
- Analyze and interpret data collected by the team,
- Support the development of policy recommendations,
- Prepare presentations for research partners, stakeholders, and conferences; and
- Support team in co-authoring peer-reviewed publications.
Required Skills:
- Experience with social science research methods, such as survey development, interviews, statistical analyses, policy analysis, and development of policy recommendations.
- Background in or understanding of issues related to engineering, architecture, and the allied built environment disciplines,
- Interest in urban agriculture and urban food production,
- Excellent written and oral communication skills,
- Curiosity and critical thinking.
Desired Skills:
Although not required, preference will be given to applicants who have:
- Some experience with Atlas TI or equivalent qualitative assessment tools,
- Some experience with circular economy and transdisciplinary research, and
- Familiarity with ArcGIS or equivalent tools.
Position Details:
- Salary: $44.77 – $49.38 per hour depending on degree program
- 20-40 hours per week possible
- Location: Remote work, regular (in person) meetings with Professor
- This position is represented by the UAW ASE (Academic Student Employees) Union Contract
- The position has the possibility of renewal during AY 2025/26 based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs
