Staff Council

Mission

To represent the CBE staff in a participatory role in the College and the University, giving voice to the interests and issues of the CBE staff community. The Council will foster collaboration and communication between each of the five academic Departments within the College, as well as our disparate work areas (admin, advising, finance, etc.)

The Council will preserve and promote respect, integrity, collegiality, transparency, and excellence across the College.

Who We Are

The CBE Staff Council is made up of one representative from at least three of CBE’s five academic departments, one representative from the Dean’s Office, and one at-large member. The Council was created to provide College of Built Environments staff with a forum to discuss and bring ideas and concerns forward to the dean. General meetings are held once a month, and minutes are posted on our Google Drive.  Staff Forums are held once per quarter.  Each year the council creates professional development and social opportunities for the staff across the college. We also manage the awarding of the annual CBE Distinguished Staff Award.

Meetings take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 10:30am over Zoom.

Every 2 weeks on Tue, until Jun 9, 2026, 19 occurrence(s)
Meeting ID: 991 3193 8896

Resources for Staff

CBE Staff Professional Development funds

CBE leadership has allocated $500 to each eligible staff member for professional development.  Professional development funds may generally be used for eligible expenses that support your role and professional growth, such as:
courses, trainings, and workshops

  • conferences and seminars
  • professional memberships or dues
  • certification or licensure fees
  • books and other instructional materials related to your work
  • other job related development opportunities, as appropriate

These funds have been set up in Workday through a Spend Authorization, effective 8/5/25 – 6/30/26, labeled “FY26 BE Commons Staff Development.”

These funds are intended to help you, whether through training, tools, memberships, conferences, or other opportunities that strengthen your work. The Spend Authorization is simply a tool to provide better visibility into your funds and streamline the reimbursement process. As a reminder:
  • These funds are not discretionary and must be used for professional development purposes.
  • All expenditures are subject to standard departmental/Chair and UW approvals and must comply with university expenditure policies.
  • Funds must be spent no later than the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 2026.

The Washington State Employee Assistance Program (WA EAP) supports PEBB-eligible University of Washington employees and their household members to help identify and resolve personal concerns to promote individual and workplace wellbeing.
