Contact the HR Team as early as possible when planning a new hire, appointment, reappointment, or change to an existing position. Processing time depends on the type of position, required approvals, and whether the individual is already employed by UW.
Faculty and Academic Personnel
Contact be-hr@uw.edu for assistance with faculty appointments, reappointments, short term teaching appointments, visiting scholars, and other academic personnel actions.
Use the CBE Short Term Faculty Hire Form to initiate an eligible short term faculty appointment. You must be logged in to UW Connect to access the form.

Do not ask a student to begin working until the HR Team confirms that the appointment and employment requirements are complete.
Contact be-hr@uw.edu for changes involving position details, compensation, FTE, work schedules, supervisory organization, costing, extensions, reappointments, or other employment information.
Submit requests as soon as a change is anticipated. Include the employee’s name, requested action, proposed effective date, business reason, funding information when applicable, and required approvals.
Use the CBE Termination Form when an employee is separating from CBE or ending an appointment. Early notice allows HR and the employee’s unit to coordinate final pay, access, equipment, records, and other transition responsibilities.
Employees should enter routine time off in Workday and follow the approval practices established by their unit. Contact the HR Team when a request involves an extended leave, accommodation, return to work plan, or a situation requiring confidential guidance.
Review the applicable University guidance:
Faculty and academic personnel should also review the CBE Guidance for Faculty Leave.
Leave eligibility and requirements vary by employment program and individual circumstances. Contact be-hr@uw.edu early for help identifying the appropriate process and University resources.
The HR Team supports faculty and academic personnel actions in coordination with department chairs, the Dean’s Office, and the UW Office for Academic Personnel and Faculty.
